Yes, you should have an active Certified Scrum Master (CSM) and also should have one year of experience as a Scrum Master in order to go for A-CSM certification.
You have to attend a trainer-led training in order to get A-CSM certified. This training is delivered by a Certified Scrum Trainer who is authorized by Scrum Alliance. Upon successful completion of the training, you will be given the A-CSM certification.
A-CSM Training will be done in different durations. Usually it will be a 2 days training from 9AM IST to 5PM IST. Sometimes it will be conducted from 8AM IST to 4 PM IST. Another pattern is a 3 day schedule during the evening India time, 6PM IST to 11 PM IST. This is to help the USA, Canada, and Europe.
There is no exam for A-CSM certification. You have to attend the 16 hours of certification Training and you can get the certification after the completion of the Training.

No, you cannot get the A-CSM certification without Training. This is because, when you attend the Training, you will get an in-depth understanding of the concepts so that it helps you to implement those concepts in your profession effectively.
Before COVID-19 we used to conduct physical classroom training. During the COVID-19 Scrum Alliance approved to conduct Live Virtual training. Our live virtual training is conducted through the Zoom platform. Our live virtual training is equally interactive and engaging. We also have occasional physical classroom training also.
Yes, A-CSM will have 2 years validity, after that you have to renew your certification. This is to ensure you are continuously improving your Scrum knowledge and experience and to keep your certification active in Scrum Alliance.
There are two options to renew your A-CSM certification. You have to pay 175 USD and upload 30 SEUs (Scrum Education Units). Second option is to get the next level CSP-SM certification so that your A-CSM will be automatically renewed without 175 USD and 30 SEUs. If you go for the first option, then you do not need to attend training again. When you renew your A-CSM certification, all the lower certifications (CSM/CSPO) will automatically be renewed for the next 2 years.
No, if you want to do A-CSM, then you should have an active CSM certification. This is because the concepts discussed in A-CSM will be advanced concepts and they are on top of the fundamentals that you have learned in CSM certification training.
